“I’ve never been certain whether the moral of the Icarus story should only be, as is generally accepted, ‘don’t try to fly too high,’ or whether it might also be thought of as ‘forget the wax and feathers, and do a better job on the wings.”
― Stanley Kubrick
Day 4 of Research and Development: Building Wings
Phase two of Research and Development restarted again today with the creative team, Matt and Rob from Illuminos and dancers, Alice, Vicki, Hal and Louis. After a quick morning class, the dancers went straight back into creating new material, working on a task called “ the description game”. We also heard the first samples of the beautiful music, composed and played by Matt Vale. More posts on this subject to follow, stay tuned.
The afternoon saw more interplay with projections including the building of Icarus’s wings. The epic flight scene was also explored with group tasks and the Illuminos team discovered how the dancer and projections can work best together to give the greatest sensation of flight.
All this week, we will be sharing different inspirations, imagery and art work of famous artists also inspired by the great Greek myth of Daedalus and Icarus. Keep a look out and follow hashtag #IcarusInspired on our Facebook and Twitter pages.
